This map was published in 1906 by Milwaukee, Bailey. The Library of Congress has this available online and can be viewed at the University of Connecticut's Online Library. Special software is required to view the whole map in a 1:1 ratio. Some of the more interesting parts of this map are shown on this page.
Above is the whole street map portion of this document. North is on the left side of the image. This image has been split into 2 halves to make viewing easier.
The railroad station in New Milford still stands today and is owned by the town of New Milford. This close-up shows the station along with the old freight building and the manually-operated crossing gate protecting Bridge Street. A closer look at this map shows the round house and water tower that was once located at the north end of the station. The hat factory and the 'flat iron' building can also been seen. From the looks of this map, parking on the green in New Milford was hard to find in 1906. This is the southern portion of the green with the Town Hall (A), old Post Office(B) and bandstand visible.
The Bridgeport Wood Finishing Company was once a major industry in New Milford. They had their own stop on the Housatonic Railroad (Still River) for their employees and shipping needs. This view would be looking southwest. Today, the foundation from this plant can be seen from the Lover's Leap Bridge. Hat manufacturing was one of the major industries in the area during the early 1900's. One of New Milford's hat shops was located on Housatonic Avenue. The site is occupied by a masonry supply company.
